A guide to the Film Industry course
Your first day on set, what it is like being on set.
What are the roles and responsibilities on a set? – With a talk from an industry 1st AD. What it is really like to be a runner!
What is an idea, what makes a good idea?
Why do directors make treatments, and how important it is to work to budget.?
We will walk students through this process, and encourage them to work on an idea of developing their own music video which they will produce / direct at the end of the week.
From the initial idea we will work with the students on how to break down the idea and the importance of storyboarding.
Students will develop their idea, work on a budget, and break down what they need to produce their idea at the end of the week. The idea can be anything from live action, to stop frame animation.
In the second half of the day we will look at production design and the importance of good art direction, with a talk led by an award winning production designer.
Students will be able to see the various cameras used in film production and lighting.
Students will get an opportunity to work with camera and lighting experts and look at Virtual Reality Production in action.
Students will get an indepth look at the post production. Rushes from a production will be provided and students will learn how to select the best takes, and use post production to enhance an idea.
The afternoon session will look at sound design, and how to use sound design to bring your idea to life, led by award winning sound house King Lear.
Using the skills learnt throughout the week, students will be able to put their learning into practice.
With equipment provided, students will direct, produce a music video or a commercial that will be screened at the end of the day.
