Sports Industry
Operating out of Oundle School from 28th July to 2nd August we offer an in-depth understanding of the sports industry; how it works and the career pathways within it.
You will learn about the following professions over a week: Psychology, Physiotherapy, Coaching, Strength and Conditioning Nutrition and Media in Sport. You’ll also learn about jobs in football with a visit to Fulham FC training ground.

Activate Career Learning is delivered by Activate Management.
Activate operate in over 40 independent schools across the UK during the school holidays delivering sport specific holiday day and residential courses for children aged 5-16 years.
In addition we deliver the National Citizen Service (NCS) to teenagers aged 16-18 years and intervention projects for ex-offenders, helping them reintegrate back into the community through sport.
We are part owned by Cherry Red Records, which gives us a unique access into world of music and film, and with extensive links into the sports industry, we are perfectly placed to deliver a premium Career Learning experience for young people.
Our Programmes
Living away from home for a week, the course combines workshops delivered by guest lecturers, off site visits to industry and practical learning and work experience tasks. Students are also given the opportunity to network throughout the week with industry leaders.
In addition, young people will learn how to cook for themselves; supervised in kitchens, participants will work in groups to plan and prepare meals throughout the week, getting ready for independent living.
A guide to the Sports Industry course
A brief overview of what sports psychology is; the basic concepts and benefits of psychology including mental resilience, visualization, confidence, anxiety and goal setting.
Learn what a day-to-day schedule looks like and the education path to enter the profession.
Working in groups young people will learn about the three main macronutrients along with the importance of hydration and portions. Students will understand the varied dietary needs for different athletes. Examples include a tennis player vs endurance runner vs rugby player.
Practical Activity: Design and Cook Your Own Sports Meal – Students will design their own balanced meal for an athlete of their choice
With a workshop delivered by Fulham FC Foundation on jobs in football with a particular focus on the football coaching industry.
An overview of Grassroots Coaching and its importance in developing younger minds.
Practical Activity: Collaborate and come up with a practice plan. You can choose from different sports; football, cricket or rugby for example. Participants will then deliver a session to other students on the course.
A workshop delivered by our guest speaker on the role of media in sport with a focus on presenting and commentary.
A guide to the music and media film course
A brief overview of the spectrum of careers that are available across the music industry – from live music to recorded music, creative and academic careers. Case study – making a record: An overview of the process from writing and performing to recording and exploiting an album. Students review some very successful recent albums and present why they think those albums were so successful and what kind of strategies were used to promote and market them.
Introduction to commercial production Talk led from a guest producer who will
help students understand the roles in commercial production; Cinematographer,
Production Design to Location Manager. Trajectory from Runner, Production Assistant to Production Manager. Write your script and storyboard, what brand/ product is the commercial for? With camera, props and simple edit software, film your commercial.
To see first hand how commercials and films are edited. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved and speak to industry professionals
Learn how different music artists and film studios use a range of creative marketing assets across a spectrum of social media
platforms.
Study and discuss how a range of bands and artists use press releases, images,
adverts and videos to market their music on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Threads, YouTube and TikTok.
A guide to presenting and newspaper editing – Guest speaker
Review a band or film and learn how to present to camera. If you don’t want to present infront of a camera, write your review as a print journalist and present it back to the group.

Cherry Red Records
Cherry Red Records is a British independent record label founded in Malvern, Worcestershire, by Iain McNay in 1978. The label has released recordings by Dead Kennedys, Everything but the Girl, The Monochrome Set, and Felt, among others, as well as the compilation album Pillows & Prayers. In addition to releasing new music, Cherry Red also acts as an umbrella for individual imprints and catalogue specialists.

Fulham FC Foundation is the official charity of Fulham FC, changing the lives of 10,000 people each year. They inspire and engage through sport, improving the physical health and mental wellbeing of participants, while supporting people across our community to feel socially connected and confident.
P3FORM
The P3FORM high-performance team is made up of psychologists, physiotherapists, nutritionists, physical performance coaches, executive coaches and business consultants. They provide consultancy support to national teams and are part of the support staff at major international events. Their team take’s a holistic view of goals, health and performance to provide targeted support to perform at the highest level, consistently.

Oundle School
Our Career Learning programmes are delivered at Oundle School.
Oundle is located in the heart of Northamptonshire, just a 15 minute drive from Peterborough.
We have access to boarding houses, separated into male and female floors containing single room and dormitory accommodation.
Facilities at the school include a state of the art sports centre, with a swimming pool, fitness gym, double sports hall and strength and conditioning gym.

Hosted at Oundle School Activate Career Learning gives students the perfect opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the sport, music, media and film industries and the career paths within them.
We help students make informed choices on further education courses, give them the opportunity to network with industry leaders, and let them sample independent living ahead of attending of attending University.
With practical workshops, visits off site to industry and the opportunity to network, Activate Career Learning provides insightful work experience to help with UCAS applications.
Our residential course is staffed by a male and female pastoral care team who take care of all the needs of each student during the course and we cater for all dietary requirements.
For Students
Choosing your career can be daunting. How are you supposed to know what you want to do as a teenager; most of your parents still don’t know what they want to do now! You are now getting close to thinking what you want to do beyond school, perhaps you’re looking at a further education course, an apprenticeship, an intern position or maybe all of
these.
This is where Career Learning comes in. We’ve chosen two programmes next year to give you an indepth understanding of career opportunities in the Sports Industry and the Music, Media and Film industries.
You’ll learn not just through lectures but via practical workshops and tasks, with off site visits to the workplace. You’ll be learning about different jobs, the education courses needed, whilst getting some valuable work experience and networking opportunities. It’ll also look great on your CV and UCAS application.
In addition to having access to a gym and swimming pool each morning and evening, you’ll be cooking some of your meals during the week, and when you’re not, you’ll have a full hot and cold buffet to choose from at each meal time.
